Your choices can slow it down. If your metabolism slows down, you are burning fewer calories each day. And that means no more fat loss, and possibly even continued fat gain.
Whys that important?
Your body is your business. How you feel about yourself directly effects how you communicate with prospective and existing clients. If youre projecting a lack of confidence or poor energy, your technical expertise and experience as a successful realtor will not shine through. With each day that busy realtors make unhealthy lifestyle choices that slow metabolism and kill energy, they get further and further away from fat loss. Its also likely that listings will be further and further apart.
Regardless, theres a lot more to being a successful realtor than just selling houses. If youre not happy with your life, youre not a successful realtor. Nothing has the ability to make you feel happy like the confidence you get from knowing that you look great. Likewise, nothing can drag you down faster than frustration or negative feelings about weight gain.
To help, Ive put together a list of the top 13 ways busy realtors can increase metabolism and improve appearance, so that youll feel great, burn as many calories as possible each day, and burn fat 24/7:
Dont starve yourself! This is one of the worst things a realtor that wants a better body can ever do to his or her body. Its easy to get busy and forget to eat. Do this and your metabolism will drop like a housing market that goes bust. This means that itll be harder for you to lose fat and easier for you to gain fat! Not a combo the successful realtor wants to put an offer on. But you may be wondering what about the weight you lost on crash diets? Starving yourself actually causes you to lose much more water weight and muscle than fat. So now, you weigh less at least for a while but you sure as hell dont look very good.
Build more muscle. Many have put forth the false claim that adding 1 pound of muscle will burn 50 calories. Its become somewhat of a modern fitness myth. While its not true, Dr. John Berardi has shown that a gain of 5 to 10 pounds of lean mass muscle will boost your resting metabolism by roughly 100 calories each and every day. But the benefits for realtors dont stop there. Your metabolism will also get independent boosts from both performing the exercise and recovering from it.
Eat breakfast. A coffee and a donut is not breakfast. If youre not going to get up earlier, at the very least eat a lean protein, consume a fiber-rich fruit and have a cup of Green Tea to get your fat loss day started right. Busy realtors that want a better body must make a healthy breakfast a staple of your daily realtor fitness program, and metabolism-boosting plan.
Eat 5-8 small meals each day. Try and split your meals up into smaller meals that can be eaten over the course of the day. This step dramatically boosts your metabolism, help lower cholesterol, and help control blood sugar. Im fully aware that this is an easy thing to say but a much harder thing for busy realtors to do. Most realtors dont eat this way because they dont take the time to plan and prepare low fat meals. Each day, take a half-hour to prepare your meals for the next day, or take a couple hours on a day off to prepare as much food as you can for the upcoming week.
Eat every 2-3 hours. Eat approximately every 2-3 hours, with a substantial breakfast and a substantial post workout meal. Your meals should be evenly spaced throughout the time that your awake, even if that means eating after 7 pm. Yeah, I know what youve heard its not true.
Choose the right foods. Food choices can boost the metabolic rate of the busy realtor by another 100 to 200 calories per day. Put down the fast food, junk food, and processed and pre-packaged crap. Instead, eat high quality and nutrient-dense foods. This means lots of lean proteins, metabolism-boosting fats, antioxidant-rich fruits and veggies, and high fiber carbohydrates at the right times (nutrient timing).
Do intense intervals for cardio. You can increase the number of calories you burn during your realtor fitness program (about 300 to 600 calories per day depending on your body size and workout duration) through targeted interval exercise. So, rather than walking on a treadmill at the same pace for 30 boring minutes, alternate between high and low intensity. The fat loss benefit doesnt stop when interval training ends. In fact, combining weight training with interval training can result in the burning of up to another 100 to 200 calories per day in the 12-24 hours after working out- a post-exercise energy burst that eats up calories while you're sitting on your butt.
Strength train. Resistance training is extremely important because its the stimulus your body needs to keep the muscle you have and begin rebuilding new muscle tissue the engine that drives your metabolism. Its also a great way to burn daily stress in a positive way. Your realtor fitness program should include compound movements that include the largest muscle groups or even call into play the entire body as a unit such as squats, lunges, presses, rows, dips, and chins. These will have a much greater metabolism stimulating effect than isolation exercises (biceps curls, etc).
Change your workout routine every 3-4 weeks. Realtor fitness programs are simply a stimulus for change. However, your body is all too happy to stay the way it is even if youre not. Your body will adapt and you'll need a change to create a new stimulus to continue building muscle and burning fat! Leaving your happy zone means trying new activities activities that you may not be comfortable with or particularly good at right away. However, when it comes to building your metabolism and a better body, inefficiency is a good thing. It will cause your body to burn more calories - and more fat - for fuel.
Start moving. The human body is designed to move not sit at a desk all day or on the couch all night watching must-see TV. Just by living a more active lifestyle that includes 5 hours of low intensity physical activity each week, you can increase your calorie burning by about 300 to 600 calories per day! Youll even find that the boost in energy and reduction in stress will result in more listings and more sales. Recent studies show that people make $1000 less per year for every 10 pounds that theyre overweight. When applied to busy realtors, this figure could be up to 100 times higher.
Get enough sleep. Try and stick to a regular sleep schedule. If youre staying up all night or getting inconsistent sleep, your metabolism, energy will slow down. This is not always possible for busy realtors that are also busy parents of young children. Following the other points becomes that much more critical if this is your situation.
Be Consistent. Nothing will undermine a realtor fitness program, or the "re-building" of your metabolism like inconsistency. You cannot get your metabolism burning hot and keep it burning by missing meals, missing workouts or with sporadic, infrequent training.
