Realtor Fitness Expert Reveals How Appearance Affects Sales And What Successful Realtors Do About It

By Dale Andrew

The bottom line is that your appearance affects sales. There’s one simple reason for this:

Sales are transactions between PEOPLE

Your reason for engaging in regular exercise may be as simple as looking better naked. However, the benefits of looking your best extend far beyond the concrete walls of your local health club. If you work in a sales position, you may be losing potential customers and sales because of your appearance.

Whether you like it or not, people make buying decisions based on appearances. A growing body of research indicates that an employee's physical appearance is a powerful symbol that affects job success. Indeed, looking good on the job is an intangible asset that can be important for busy realtors, just as sharp marketing skills or the ability to be a team player can give certain realtors an edge.

As the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a first impression. Indeed, many busy realtors spend a lot of time choosing clothing and vehicles that convey a sense of professionalism to existing and potential clients. These successful realtors recognize that their visual body image affects how their message is perceived.

It’s not about what’s supposed to be or what’s fair. It’s about what IS.

If you don’t look or dress the part, right or wrong, people probably aren’t going to trust that you’re capable of playing the part. While these things are superficial, it can be a lot harder for busy realtors to lose weight with their realtor fitness program. However, recent research shows that being overweight is another area that can have a negative affect on job prestige and income; although, this is an issue that seems to affect women more so than men.

Does this mean overweight realtors are not as productive?

Many say absolutely not! An overweight realtor that’s confident, competent, energetic and client-centered in his or her approach can be just as successful, or more so, than a thinner realtor. However, there’s no denying that many overweight realtors suffer from low morale, poor self-esteem, and lack energy. These aren’t problems busy realtors leave at home when they go to work. What’s worse is that busy realtors may be taking stress home with them.

So, appearance affects employment, sales, income….so what?

Well, assuming that you have no medical conditions, your appearance is largely a factor of the lifestyle choices you make, OR don’t make. I’ve worked with many busy realtors that most people, by all social definitions, would classify as successful. However, many of these “successful” realtors are not happy – and often this is because they aren’t comfortable with their weight.

Fortunately, this can be overcome with a well-designed realtor fitness or fat loss program.

However, there’s nothing in the real estate agent licensing exam that teaches or prepares a busy realtor how to lose fat. For my part, my expertise and experience isn’t deeds, property lines, and mortgages, but rather exercise physiology, biomechanics, and nutrition. When I buy or sell a house, I hire a successful realtor. Why? Well, I guess it’s because they buy and sell more houses in a week than I will in a lifetime - that, and the fact that I don’t want to waste time or make a costly mistake.

Now, when you start a realtor fitness program, do you hire a fitness professional, or do you just wing it after reading the latest issue of Cosmo?

If you’re a busy realtor, you don’t have a lot of time to exercise as it is.

Do you really have so much time or money that you can afford to waste it with inefficient fat loss methods? The sooner you feel better about your body, the sooner your body image will match your message. Sure, you could choose to spend months and even years learning from your fat loss mistakes. But, why do you want to make them in the first place?

Successful realtors get results in and out of the gym with their realtor fitness program, and they live by another saying: “time is money.”
