World’s Top Realtor Fitness Expert Reveals 5 Secrets Successful Realtors Use To Get More Energy and Get More Listings

By Dale Andrew

Chances are that this will happen to you at sometime during your career as a realtor.

Things will slow down. The housing market will take a downward turn. Realtors struggle and compete to get more listings, but there are fewer and they are further apart. Suddenly, income that was there when the housing market was booming disappears.

As in any sales profession, realtors are on a stressful roller coaster of ups and downs. It’s how realtors handle the downs that separate the “temps” from those realtors that will have long successful careers.

Realtors that can’t cope with stress fall by the wayside, while successful realtors get more listings and continue to make money despite adverse market conditions.

But, what makes these realtors so successful? What’s their secret?

As a fitness professional, I have had the good fortune to consult with a number of successful realtors. In many ways, they have all been very different, ranging from 22 to 68 years old. But, such differences are more distracting than instructive in our examination of what successful realtors have in common.

For one thing, successful realtors realize that they are in the people business. Not unlike the job of a fitness professional, realtors are expected to give clients results that they can’t possibly achieve on their own. If they don’t deliver, they are no longer needed. It’s about building relationships based on customer satisfaction and trust. While they put the customer first, they don’t put themselves last when it comes to their health and fitness.

Now ask yourself, as a realtor, what makes you special? Why should you get more listings than the next realtor?

Is it your technical knowledge? Is it your experience as a realtor?

Now, how many of you answered these questions with a client-centered approach. It doesn’t matter what you know, or how many years experience you have. Technical knowledge can be learned. Experience is a matter of practice. These things only matter if they matter to your client.

Ultimately, successful realtors are great communicators. They are client-centered, confident, honest, and energetic. Successful realtors fulfill their commitments and work harder than most outsiders will ever realize. This is even more so the case in a slow housing market.

When faced with a down market, “bad” realtors wish it were easier, instead of wishing they were better. They make excuses to explain away their lack of listings as bad luck. They blame, justify, and complain. With every failure, the stress to succeed in getting more listings becomes bigger and bigger. When the concern of how to get more listings becomes more important than the satisfaction of each client, the seed of failure is planted.

In a slow market, bad realtors feel that they don’t have enough time, even though they have more time. They feel that they must work harder to make less than they are used to. And often, realtors sacrifice their own personal nutrition, health, and fitness in the interest of hard work.

This is the exact opposite of what you should do if you are ever faced with a down market.

Successful realtors know that it’s not hard work that matters; it’s productive work. You simply can’t be at your best if you’re tired, stressed, or hungry. And remember, it’s not how you think you feel; it’s how your clients perceive you. Few people want to put their economic future in the hands of a realtor that appears to lack confidence, energy, or the ability to manage his or her own personal realtor fitness.

There is an abundance of evidence to support that possessing a higher energy level than your client is associated with increased sales. So, if you can get more energy, it’s likely you’ll get more listings. Right?

But, how do successful realtors boost energy levels and boost sales?

From the world’s top realtor fitness coach to you, here are the 5 secrets that successful realtors use to boost energy levels, get more listings, and become a successful realtor:

  1. Engage in regular exercise.
It’s very important that realtors have a positive outlet for dealing with daily stress. A realtor fitness program can help you do this, and maintain or improve your physical appearance. You only get one chance to make a first impression. It’s a basic law that when you feel good, people will think you are good at what you do. The alternative is not where you want to be.

  2. Eat 4-6 meals per day.
When the phones ringing, the kids need to be picked up, and you’ve got house to show, it’s easy to go all day and forget to eat anything other than coffee. Don’t. Eating every 2-3 hours will help control your blood sugar and cholesterol levels, elevate metabolism, assist in fat loss, and give you the sustained fuel you need to be productive.

  3. Define “successful realtor.”
People don’t usually get what they want because they usually don’t know what they want. What is your ideal life/work balance? Is it income based? Write down your goals daily.

  4. Model successful realtors that meet your definition.
Get a mentor. Learn from your mistakes, but don’t repeat the mistakes of other realtors that learned the hard way if you can help it.

  5. Take time for renewal.
Eventually, realtors reach a point where despite their best efforts; they begin to reap diminishing returns. The same holds true with your realtor fitness program. Rather than falling into a negative spiral of stress and self-doubt, plan to take some time off, instead. You need quiet time away to reflect. With the clarity only time away can provide, you’ll return with a boost in energy levels, and a renewed enthusiasm and ability to get more listings - with less effort! In short, you’ll be a more productive and successful realtor.
