Just about everyone has at least one piece of home gym equipment. But few actually use it after the first couple of weeks – well, other than as an expensive hanger for their laundry, that is.
When it comes to getting in shape, I’ll let you in on a big secret: It’s not about the equipment. I can see gym owners and home gym manufacturers cringing.
They want you to think that you can’t get in shape without their fancy, whiz-bang machine, and that you’ll stay out of shape until you join their gym or buy their machine.
Sorry, it’s just not true.
Equipment is a means to an end, but it never has and never will be the end, itself. However, that kind of honesty doesn’t sell pieces of plastic and fill landfills year after year. Among the worst offenders are ab machines. They are erroneously touted as all you need to get six-pack abs.
Millions want to believe the hype and buy into these promises. Each year, ab machines are always evolving into the newest and greatest invention ever. But they never let the consumer know that spot-reducing fat is physiologically impossible.
They think you’re dumb.
Heck, they’re probably the same people trying to sell you that "magic" cream that makes cellulite disappear!
If you want to see your abs or have a tighter stomach, you need to lose fat. It might shock you to discover that breaking your back doing useless and harmful crunches is among the least effective ways to do this.
Home gym equipment is only as good as the exerciser using it. If you don’t know how to properly use the exercise equipment or it’s not appropriate for your fitness goals or current physical condition – you’re wasting money and risking injury.
Many people join gyms because they don’t use their home gym equipment regularly. Then guess what happens? They don’t use the exercise equipment at the gym either.
It’s not about the equipment.
Kicking butt day after day with passion, motivation, and a clear goal in mind is what gets results. That’s what it really takes.
And don’t forget everybody already has the best piece of equipment already – the human body.
